Sperm whales or blue sharks: you just have to decide
On-board activities
RECREATIONAL FREEDIVING
The Azores is a magical place where you can meet large marine mammals such as sperm whales or dive in the company of beautiful (and harmless) blue sharks. The sea is powerful and it is easy to feel the breath of the ocean with the power of the waves coming from afar and the horizons that never end….
SAILING
We sail along the routes of the whalers (now retired) crossing routes and legends that have animated the souls of many navigators and inspired writers of the sea. The sea area around Faial, the port where you embark, includes islands that are quite close to each other and it is therefore possible to set up a comfortable daily navigation that leaves room for both activities and pure relaxation.
SPEARFISHING
Fishing in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in the Azores archipelago is a truly unique experience. The geographical latitude and the characteristics of the water (temperature and salinity) mean that it is not difficult to see huge parrotfish mixed in with large bream, while the inevitable triggerfish prey on damselfish and other small fish. There is no shortage of large predators: amberjacks compete for the top of the food chain with greenhouse fish and large barracudas; in short, every dive is an adventure. With a view to selective and sustainable spearfishing, Katabasis Freediving and Sailing is also committed to guaranteeing a standard of safe and compatible spearfishing in the Azores, respecting the extraordinary environment of the Atlantic Ocean.
