New!!! Sustainable Spearfishing Instructor Course
An internal training course by Katabasis to provide the necessary foundations for teaching spearfishing, aimed at those who already hold a freediving certification and have good skills in underwater fishing carried out according to environmental and sustainable criteria.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
– SSI Freediving Level 1 certification or equivalent from another agency
– Ability to spearfish at depths of up to 15 metres, as per the KATABASIS BASIC SPEARFISHING course programme
– Competitive medical certificate for underwater activities
– Complete freediving and spearfishing equipment
COURSE CONTENTS
Equipment
In-depth knowledge and routine maintenance of all equipment components; splicing and handling of monofilament lines will be covered, with instruction on the relevant knots required.
Freediving technique
Verification of demonstration freediving techniques such as upside-down, finning and equalization, with particular attention to rescue techniques in all their forms.
Hunting techniques
Verification and practice of fundamental spearfishing techniques such as gliding, landing, sliding and restarting from the bottom.
Analysis of variables
Knowledge of the impact of light, currents, seabed conformation, weather events and the behaviour of small fish (feeding).
Spearfishing techniques
Practice and analysis of the main techniques at different depths, such as razzolo, fishing in burrows, ambush and waiting.
Safety
In-depth considerations and analysis of real-life case studies during spearfishing. Communication and management of teaching sessions. How to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure an efficient, safe and enjoyable learning environment.
Environment
Respect for the environment is a fundamental and integral part of this course! Starting with the recognition of fish species and moving on to the study of regulations and ordinances. An active, demonstrative and informative attitude is required.
CALENDAR (23 HOURS)
– 2 online theory sessions of 2.5 hours (5 hours)
Monday 13 and Wednesday 15 October 2025 from 8pm to 10.30pm
– Theory and practical weekend
Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 from 9am to 6pm (16 hours)
PARTICIPATION FEE
€400 + €25 Katabasis 2025/26 registration fee
At the end of the course, a certificate of recognition will be issued for
BASIC INSTRUCTOR OF SUSTAINABLE FREEDIVING – KATABASIS, a certification that will allow you to teach introductory and basic courses in freediving.
!!!If you already have an SSI Freediving instructor certification and add the cost of the kit (€50), you will receive the SSI Freediving Basic Freediving Instructor certification.!!!
